Cefalù and Himera guided tour

Cefalù and Himera guided tour

Lovely city, lovely landscapes, lovely shops, lovely food: what other reasons to visit Cefalù?

Cefalù, with its population of just under 14,000 inhabitants, is one of the major tourist attractions in Sicily: in fact, despite its size, every year it attracts tourists in such a number that the population can triple.

For this private tour with learned English-speaking driver able to provide general information about the sites, we will pick you up from your hotel or b&b with one of our vehicles: for 1-2 people a city car (with upgrade option to a larger car), for 3-8 people a big sedan or a minivan according to the number of people.

We head firstly towards Palermo's eastern coastline to then enter the motorway: after about an hour we arrive in Cefalù. Of Greek origins, the city due its importance to the the almost inaccessible rock that towers over it, which used to be the seat of the city in the past. Upon our arrival, we will walk up the rock! The remains of the castle and other structures are definitely interesting but what is really breathtaking is the view... it takes about an hour to get to the top and it is indeed some time really well spent! It was inhabited the last time in the past century by an English satanist, Aleister Crowley, who was at the beginning well accepted by the Fascist regime. But then something happened...

We get back around lunchtime... tempting in such a lovely place, isn't it? So how about enjoying some tasty typical Sicilian food, especially fresh fish, in a restaurant by the sea? And for 'by' we really mean very very close! You will be amazed by the view (and maybe by the wine, which may increase the amazement!) from restaurants just few metres above the waves...

The old town is simply lovely: narrow and clean streets with lovely shops, restaurants and pubs. We will stroll around the Medieval city, watch the beautiful city coastline from the pier, have a coffee at the main square in front of the majestic Cathedral... then it is high time we entered it! The Cefalù Cathedral, built from 1131, according to the tradition was erected after a vow made to the Holy Saviour by the King of Sicily, Roger II, after he had escaped from a storm to land on the city's beach.

Before considering the day over, you will get the chance to see a wonderful view of the big city (Palermo) at sunset from the motorway...
