Corleone: the history of the Mafia and a different future.

Who doesn't know don Vito Corleone?

For this tour with a tour leader we will pick you up from your hotel or b&b with one of our vehicles: with a minimum of 3 people the vehicle is a luxury Mercedes-Benz 4x4 or a comfortable 8-seat minivan!  After about 90 minutes driving through the countryside surrounding Palermo we arrive at the boss of bosses’ city: Corleone. The city is linked to the Mafia in two ways: firstly, the fiction, that is the novel by Mario Puzo and the film by Francis Ford Coppola: The Godfather. The boss of bosses is don Vito Corleone, masterfully interpreted by Marlon Brando in the film; the boss' name comes from that of the city, as he was born in Corleone. But why did Mario Puzo choose Corleone as the don's city of birth? Here comes the second reason: history. Several Mafia bosses were actually born in Corleone and Corleone is related to one of the most important Mafia wars: just ask your guide if you want to know more!

In spite of the fact that Corleone is the core of the Mafia since 1970s, it is also an ancient city, likely founded as a Greek colony, strongly trying to change its future. The CIDMA — Centro della Mafia e dell’Antimafia (The Mafia and Antimafia Centre) is one example of change, the fields confiscated to the Mafia by the Government and donated to a non-profit organisation run by young people from Corleone is another example, the presence of a number of students from schools from all around the world to get involved in various activities in Corleone is a third example. Furthermore, there are beautiful landscapes, it is nicknamed 'the city of the 100 churches' and the food is delicious! We advise to buy some local sweets, liquors, and souvenirs in order to support the shop-owners who are trying to totally get rid of the Mafia.
